We are for it. If kids are not safe at school, is it worth sending them?

Advantages

The overall advantage from the policy proposed is that it can save the lives of those who attend the schools. The goal is to deter the gun violence within the learning environment by having the ability to respond to possible threats and being able to protect the students and faculty. Stated from “Debate.org”  that teachers who attain guns would be the ultimate deterrent for the possible killers and  also provide a safer learning environment for the children who attend the schools. By selecting teachers who have gone through extensive background checks, putting them through gun training and safety courses, and having them conceal the weapons at all times unless in dangerous situations, the schools would be much safer and prepared for possible threats.

Disadvantages

Obviously, there is many disadvantages that also go along with the advantages. First off, many people argue the fact that it would be a terrible learning environment. Eileen McCarron, the president of Colorado Ceasefire from “The Denver Post” states “we Coloradans do not wish to turn our school into prisons or our teachers into prison guards.” Many people agree with this statement which is why it has been very hard to get this legalized. Another disadvantage is it could actually make the school less safe. If a teacher gets upset at a student and overreacts he/she has the access to a weapon to possibly harm the student. Also, if a student somehow overpowers a teacher and steals their weapon, it could end tragically. However, in Texas and Ohio where this proposal has been set in place there has been no incidents that have happened yet. (dcsdschoolsafety.weebly.com)
