We are against it. The Second Amendment was put into place for a reason.

In the United States, the debate about firearms has gone on for decades. The Second Amendment states this: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This means the citizens of the U.S. have the right to own firearms to protect themselves.

There are people who argue that the Amendment says “militia,” which means only the army or the National Guard may own firearms. However, the Founding Fathers intended “militia” to mean the citizens of the U.S. If American citizens know how to defend with firearms, the U.S. will be a strong nation. Yamamoto said, "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." The Founding Fathers also knew that a government would try to oppress the citizens, and firearms would be a safeguard against this tendency.

Firearms protect people from attackers, and this is especially important when the attacker is armed. Against an armed attacker, one needs to be able to defend oneself. The police always attempt to get to the scene of a crime as quickly as they can, but they will hardly ever be there in time. The people who have the right to own a firearm will have been background-checked to prevent unnecessary violence, but it is still not hard to get a firearm. Because of this, the people of the U.S. should always have the right to own a firearm in order to protect themselves.

This is a problem that is difficult to solve. It is argued that if firearms were not allowed at all, people who would do harm with them would not be able to get them. firearm violence is less common than knife violence or other kinds of violence. It is true that an average of 96 people are killed per day with firearms. However, in 2016, 374 people were killed with firearms, and 656 people were killed with knives and by other kinds of violence. In self defense, a firearm could help in any situation.

The United States must not repeal the Second Amendment because it would open up a world of violence never seen before. If an individual should get ahold of a weapon despite the law, the victims would have no way to defend themselves. If the victims were armed, this would be less of a problem. The second the government takes away our right to own firearms, the country will no longer be free. There would be no way to stop the government from abolishing other rights that we have, and this is what the Founding Fathers were afraid of. The United States will remain free as long as we have the right to own firearms.
